Our Story

Figure skating has held a special place in my heart ever since I first set foot on our neighborhood rink when I was five years old. I have always loved the feeling of gliding across the ice, and in the most recent years, my favorite part has been the artistic aspect of the sport and choreographing programs with my coaches to beautiful songs.
In the fall of 2024, I was diagnosed with a labral tear in my right hip that took me out of my school tennis season and caused me to stop skating during that time. Not being able to figure skate or play tennis was really hard for me, especially because it made me realize even more how much I love both sports.
Because I couldn't participate in either of my sports, I chose to focus on my service project at the time of collecting tennis equipment through an organization to donate to children and teens locally. Inspired by this organization, I worked with one of my coaches, Joan, to start our own non-profit organization in January 2025 to collect figure skating equipment to donate to those who do not have as much access to those resources.
Creating Second Skate has been a meaningful and inspirational experience for me so far, and I'm excited for the future of this organization and the connections I will continue to make along the way!
